Our Worst Enemies Are Here At Home

After twenty years in child protective services. I thought I’d seen it all. Every kind of cruelty perpetrated on young boys and girls, I have investigated.

This post is deliberately short, only because I feel compelled to add my voice in protest concerning Alabama Republican Candidate Roy Moore. I do understand that the allegations of child sexual abuse made boldly against him are just that. Allegations! Until they are investigated.

Had a report such as that arrived at my desk, I would have been out there turning every wet stone to see if it’s just filth under there or snakes. Might even be scorpions. But I would not have rested until I had determined the veracity of the complaint AND whether Roy Moore posed a threat to any child in his care, and that would have included his own grandchildren. Is he a threat to them? Yes, I would have done all that I could. TODAY!

Had Roy Moore been an ordinary citizen, he probably would have been arrested. Had I delayed in my responsibilities, the very people in government would have been having a fit, and their convulsions would not have ceased until they took possession of my head and one from each tier above me. Rightly so.

I thought we had reached rock bottom with the election and support of Trump. Well, GOP, please tell me and my fellow citizens, how much deeper America has to fall? When did child sexual abuse become a partisan issue? Then, to rub salt in the wound, his officials who don’t have the balls or competence to do otherwise, would dare demand that the victim take a polygraph test, and yet another attempting an unbelievable parallel with a birth from two thousand years ago. I know that you, Republican officials don’t care, but do you have to be stupid too?!

Enough Already! Stop The Russia Hysteria

Today, like every day recent, anther headline whips us to frenzy. Today, The Hill reports that VP (fmr) Joe Biden, voiced his concern about the 2018 elections. He reportedly, expressed his belief that Russia will interfere in the U.S elections due next year. Now, I love, respect and support Joe Biden. This is not a criticism of him nor do I trivialise the threat, but please media and constituents, take a mighty deep breath. I have, and I’m vexed with my own country.

If you’re old enough to remember the Cold War, or interested in the period of our political history, you might be tempted to say, ‘well, what’s new’. After all, America mastered the craft and successfully manipulated elections if sovereign leaders dared imagine another way of life. Cripes, we gave Cuba half a century of our ire. Central America and the Caribbean still haven’t recovered from the trauma of the Reagan years. I don’t have to remind Americans of the domestic surveillance and despicable persecution of our own citizens. We hanged people who were trying to vote. Just know that the covert operations we experience now, is nothing new. But I have to admit that if Trump and cronies are all Russia had to work with, debacle is comedy. Ineptitude a tragedy.

At this time having accepted the ethically flexible, John Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio Secretary of State
(fmr), Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Justice Roberts’ Citizens United and worse, I am not convinced that we have the political will to demand transparency of process and unimpeded access to the ballot box. Over 90 million eligible voters didn’t vote in 2016 election. Disaffected? How about willingly disenfranchised? Over 1.4 million African American men will be unable to vote because of state laws. Overall, 3.9 million Americans have been stripped of their right to vote because of felony convictions. I ask, who gave any politician the justification for that? When did the felons lose their citizenship?

Accept this as you would a truism. Our troubles are manipulation of our elections, right? Well, for years Americans seemed to be okay with massive, blatant voter suppression, disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, race-baiting, purging, corruption and every kind of chicanery imaginable. Putin needed only to spice the dishes of animus ready-made to suit him. We happily offered him the opportunity. But who wants to hear that, when we have more pressing issues like Colin Kaepernick. Sad part is, sufficient ingredients are stocked to last several elections -if we still have elections.

On The Great Denial Of U.S Caribbean Territories.

If you happen to think that the tagline is weak, you are right. But after abandoning the last eight, I decided that I had to decide to do what I can, and not worry about being calm and deliberate. I am too pissed, outrageously pissed to worry about writing norms.

Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands were devastated by two hurricanes, which we knew were on their way days before they arrived. If particular individuals in the U.S government chose to be willfully blind to the forecasts, they must live with that. All evidence suggests that the people who fervently run our government, make good things NOT happen, at the worst time, wouldn’t miss a wink. Absent a conscience they are unbothered no matter how despicable and gigantic the eff-up. Only they could make a hiccup a cause of death.

Let’s suppose that no one in Trump’s mal-administration saw the hard to miss projections. Just supposing. Weigh that against the fact that all the pirates and blessed plunders since the 15th century, knew that that part of what was called the Spanish Main, was a perilous place to be in August through September. (The actual caution is June 1 to September 30) Put everything together, and see you how hard put it is to claim objectively that this Trump Administration gave the best of our capabilities and resources to our citizens in Puerto Rico.

We should not let any of the Trump’s misfeasance go unpunished. But, I wish again. Over a week since disaster struck the Caribbean, Trump has not visited ANY of United States territories. Rather, he chose to make a spectacle of himself trying to explain to his cabinet that the problem of bringing relief to Puerto Rico was because “it’s an island in the ocean, a big ocean” and that the island is surrounded by water; that you can’t drive a¬†truck there. Trump also said that he plans to visit “the island” in about a week. That is, three weeks for the president to visit disaster areas in his own country. During that time, he was fighting Colin Kaepernick and the NFL, who are legitimately protesting police violence and murders of African-American citizens.

Trump is not only loutish. He has no compassion for anyone other than his bagman. But, I need to stop, lest I.ūü§Ę
